Foundations Part IV: Hydration

Drinking plenty of water is one of the easiest things to forget to do. You get focused on what you’re doing, whether it’s work or something around the house, and pretty soon hours go by and it hasn’t even occurred to you to drink some water. You probably don’t even feel thirsty. In fact, the very sensation of thirst is an indication that your body is nearing a dehydrated state.

The reason I’m addressing hydration is because it’s one of the easiest things to do to treat your symptoms, whatever they may be: physical or emotional. Think about it this way: every single cell of your body needs water to function properly, and your entire body is composed of cells – your brain, your heart, your spleen, etc. Are you beginning to see that drinking water is one of the most basic ways to help yourself? Give your cells an opportunity to do their best!

Here are some motivational facts regarding hydration:

Mild dehydration can cause headaches, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. These problems feel bad in the body, and where the body feels bad, the mind is sure to follow.

Staying hydrated will increase your energy, flush out toxins, improve your complexion, get rid of wrinkles, boost your immune system, relieve cramps, aid your digestion, make you feel happy, mow the lawn and balance your checkbook. Ok, I made up those last two, but they are both easier to manage when you are hydrated!

This article includes a color chart so you can get an idea of how to evaluate hydration base on urine. Generally women should drink about 2 liters per day and men should have 3 liters.

Brody, take it away!
