Here’s another good TED production on the benefits of moving. Of interest is the fact that not moving tends to generate a bit of anxiety. Naturally, when something is “wrong”, such as, we feel anxious or irritated, the mind gets to work on why. I wonder how often people attribute their unpleasant feeling (from not moving) to some other, incorrect, source.
So I have an experiment: The next time you start to notice yourself feeling irritable, ask yourself how long you’ve been sitting. If it’s been more than 20 minutes, get up and take a walk. Go outside and take a breath of fresh air, stretch, jump up and down, whatever feels good. Then come back and re-assess the subject of your irritation.
